I've combined several challenges for this card, and really tried to stretch outside my comfort zone (okay, just a little outside). The first challenge is the Colorful Options challenge. This month's theme is Outrageous Orange, and....I'm just not comfortable in orange. I know how to use it as an accent, but I've never made a card that tried to let the orange be the star. Often when I'm a bit stumped on a challenge, I look for a other challenges that narrow down my options.
My initial instinct was to make a card that introduces turquoise as well. It's my favorite color and pairs will with orange, but it can be overpowering.
Instead, I used the Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge's mood board and it was really helpful. It's full of dark fall: campfires and marshmallows, burnt oranges, and dark foggy trees. I felt the addition of dark neutrals really helped to highlight the orange and let it sing.
I love a good shaker, but this is the first time I've owned a die that is specifically for shakers. Let me tell you, it was magical. It's SOOO much easier this way. This one is from Studio Katia, and the challenge is that it's such a thin frame. I adhered orange cardstock to a thin piece of fun foam with liquid glue. Then I added double-sided adhesive tape to the other side of the foam, turning the foam frame into a sticker. It work beautifully.
